Hands-on Kits

Our hands-on science kits correspond with the digital lessons and contain the resources you need to support experiential learning in your classrooms. Explore the two types of kits available, Hands-on Kits and Consumable Replenishment Kits.

  1. Hands-On Kit
    • Designed as a starter kit
    • Includes the most essential reusable and consumable items needed for hands-on activities
    • Items are grouped by topic
    • Contains materials for 24 students for grades K-4, or 32 students for grades 5-8

    *These kits do not contain common school supplies (paper, glue, scissors, etc.) or basic equipment

    • Meant to replenish starter kit items used in previous years

Your Trusted Partner for Professional Development

STEMscopes Science Alabama provides AMSTI-approved professional development for teachers, campus leaders, and district leaders including STEM Certification programs offered through the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE).

An initial training session will be provided as part of your adoption purchase price with an overview of the following:

  • Navigation of digital platform 
  • Student and teacher resources 
  • 5E + Intervention and Acceleration elements 
  • Hands-on activities and sample lessons 
  • Virtual or face-to-face delivery 

New teacher digital platform training will be available before the start of each subsequent school year for anyone new to the district or in need of a refresher course. Note: training sessions can accommodate a maximum of 35 participants.

    We chose custom, fascinating phenomena to provide students with real-life experiences that show the content in application. This provides a common experience for students to anchor their learning and refer to as they progress through the learning in the Scope (unit). Students will experience different phenomena in each Scope, as well as in other grade levels.

    Through inquiry-based, hands-on learning, STEMscopes’ 5E + IA approach integrates differentiation into each activity, supporting students as they grow and achieve in science. Intervention contains guided and focused tiered instruction for students needing extra support, while Acceleration offers additional enrichment opportunities. STEMscopes Science Alabama also includes strategies and resources to support Language Learners.

    STEMscopes Science Alabama  allows for the flexibility teachers need to adapt to students’ learning. Teachers have the freedom to adjust the pace and depth of instruction to meet the diverse needs of their classes. This flexibility enables teachers to provide additional support, revisit concepts, or provide extension opportunities based on individual student progress and understanding.

    Our curriculum incorporates a variety of learning modalities to accommodate different learning styles. We include opportunities for hands-on activities, visual representations, interactive simulations, collaborative discussions, and more.     Our system requests and stores minimal student data: username, password, school grade level, homeroom, and assignment grades. We prioritize the safeguarding of your information by implementing comprehensive measures. When you submit information through our applications/platform, we employ multiple layers of protection to ensure the security of your data, both online and offline.

    We utilize advanced encryption techniques and Certificate-Based authentication to shield your information from unauthorized access online. This ensures that any data transmitted between your device and our servers remains confidential and protected. Offline, we store user data using state-of-the-art security technology, employing encryption measures to protect it at rest and in transit.

    While we strive to maintain your privacy and secure your information, it is essential to note that the security of information transmitted over personal Internet connections cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, any information you disclose in this manner is done so at your own risk.

    Rest assured that access to the data you provide is strictly limited to a limited set of employees who require it to perform their job duties. These individuals undergo stringent screening processes and are trained on data privacy before being granted secure administrative rights to ensure the protection of your data. Additionally, we store all data in AWS services, benefiting from AWS’s robust security features, like encryption at rest and key rotation.

We base our curriculum on a constructivist, inquiry-based approach, which has proven to help all learners understand academic language. Additionally, we include various specific features—including visual, auditory, and linguistic—that support multilingual learning.

  9. How are resources organized for teachers?

    Our resources are designed and organized to support all teachers. The STEMscopes framework provides the pedagogical foundation for the 5E + IA format and a glossary of STEMscopes-specific terms. Planning with STEMscopes includes scope and sequence, standards, student-friendly “I can…” statements, and materials needed. Instructional Support offers resources for fully implementing the standards, including scientific and engineering practices, recurring themes and concepts, and lab safety posters and contracts. Learner Supports equip teachers with specific strategies to support all students, including tiered intervention, language supports, and advanced strategies. Teachers can find literacy strategies and a digital sample of our Science Reader with Lexile® Measures in the Literacy Resources section. The Assessment section offers sample beginning-of-year (BOY) and end-of-year (EOY) assessments.

    SEP and CCC callouts are embedded throughout lesson materials (Explore Section) to explicitly denote the use of the three dimensions and connections that can be made across scopes. In the Elaborate Section, SEPs and CCCs can be further applied through engineering and connection activities.

    NISE™ certifies teachers, campuses, and districts in STEM teaching. Using a competency-based, academic coach-led online learning platform, educators produce a portfolio of work that demonstrates proficiency across 15 STEM teacher actions.
